   About

When:

Oct 3, 2001 (10:00 am to 7:00 pm CDT), in conjunction with the Fall 2001 Internet2 Member Meeting being held in Austin, TX at that time.

Where:

Simultaneously everywhere on Earth where someone chooses to participate, and has good Internet connectivity and good H.323 video conferencing equipment.

What:

Speakers from all over the Earth will describe their real-world applications of H.323 video conferencing, using H.323 video conferencing to do so. Their presentations will comprise one of the all-day parallel tracks at the Internet2 conference, except none of the presenters, will be physically present in Atlanta.

This will be the one of the world's first totally remote-by-Internet conference track. It will be the harbinger of conferences in the future on all subjects. Speakers will increasingly appear via Internet video conferencing.

The audience will consist of three portions:

1.       People physically present in the meeting room in Austin.

2.       People from around the world, participating via H.323 video conferencing.

Portions 1 and 2 above will be fully interactive. Audience members may ask questions of the speakers, and the speakers may interact with one another.

3.       People from around the world, watching the conference via streaming video. These participants will not be interactive.

How:

A system of distributed H.323 multipoint control units, located around the world, will be cascaded together to create the world's largest Internet video conference.

You are encouraged to participate in Megaconference II, by doing this:

Register to participate as part of the interactive audience. (Those who will watch only the streaming video should NOT register.) See the Registration page to register.

Tests and rehearsals will be scheduled. A final cutoff date will be established . Continuing discussions and development of Megaconference II will be on the megacon email list, and not on the other lists to which this announcement is going. If you do not subscribe to that list, but wish to do so, just send me email telling me briefly who you are and what you do etc.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
